The year long programme to celebrate more than 50 years of the existence of the Selangor State Council of the National Society of St Vincent de Paul, which began on last year’s Feast Day of its Patron Saint, St Vincent de Paul, on 27.9.2013, continued with its 3rd event as planned in December 2013. This event had triple activities which were celebrated on Wednesday 4th December 2013.
It started in the morning with the Four Conferences in its Petaling Jaya district ie. Conference of Assumption, Conference of the Holy Trinity, Conference of St Francis Xavier and the Conference of St Ignatius combining their resources to sponsor the soup kitchen run by the Church of Assumption P.J.
The event enabled members of the Conferences to come forward to help prepare ingredients that were to be cooked for the day. The members present also helped the Soup Kitchen team of volunteers to pack the 400 packets of food for distribution in the Taman Sri Sentosa and Desa Mentari areas, and also served those who came to the Soup Kitchen to be fed, which was located at the Assumption Church parish house. With the cooking done the members also helped in the cleaning up work.
The next event for the day then began at 4.00pm in Rumah Ozanam PJ. This is the 1st project home of the Society in Selangor operated by the Conference of Holy Trinity. The early afternoon event saw members from all the Conferences in Selangor gathering to witness the Time Capsule burial event at 4.30pm.
Interned in the time capsule, which will be opened in 50 years time ie. on 4.12.2063, were early and current documents of the Society from the State Council and all its 10 conferences and 3 service centres. The documents included Registration Certificates of the Registrar of Societies, The Aggregation Certificates from SSVP International, the 50th Annual Report of the State Council and the annual reports of the Conferences, photos, the GJ celebration Banner and 4 speeches, contributed by Rev Fr Mari Arokiam, The Ecclesiastical Assistant for the Society, Bro Raj Narayanan, the State Council President, Bro Kennedy Solomon, the President of the Holy Trinity Conference and the Rumah Ozanam Home project and Bro Francis Lai, the SSVP Selangor State Council GJ Organising Committee Chairman. The program ended with a simple fellowship dinner hosted by the members of the Conference of Holy Trinity.
