As it has been increasingly difficult to recruit foreign maids over the recent years, NAWEM (National Association of Women Entrepreneurs of Malaysia) has explored alternatives to get live-in maids.The idea of Smart Domestic Managers was mooted by NAWEM  and in collaboration with Jabatan Pembangunan Wanita has begun running such courses which combines training to cover various methods of childcare  and domestic help.

SSVP’s Ozanam Service Centre, operated by the PJ Conferences of Assumption and St Francis Xavier, Society of St Vincent De Paul Selangor and in line with the objectives of SSVP Selangor to embark on projects that will lead to the development and empowerment of single mothers and ladies managed to secure a training programme from NAWEM.

Training for  the first batch of  10 participants  was conducted  by NAWEM, at Rumah Puspanita, Jalan Hose, Kuala Lumpur from   28th September to 9th Oct 2015, for a duration of  10 days.

This Programme, comprising  three main components  is structured as follows  :-

  1. Selection of candidates and Training on core hard and soft skills.
  2. Marketing and Placement for provision of domestic services.
  3. Monitoring and Coaching SMART Domestic Managers.

There were  80 hours of  training over  the 10 days,  and was split into 40 hours of instructor-led training and 40 hours of external practical training conducted  at selected  partner hotels.

At the end of the 10 day  training, participants were awarded certificates recognised by the  Housekeepers Association of  Malaysia.

Out of the 10 participants, 6 were  placed in jobs  as Domestic Managers  and the other 4 participants opted to provide cleaning services in their vicinity on a free lance basis.
