This year’s Chinese New Year Charity luncheon hosted by the combined Lion’s Club in Kuala Lumpur was held on Sunday 12 February 2017 at the Dynasty Dragon Restaurant in Atria, Petaling Jaya. A number of social concern run homes in the Klang Valley, such as old folks homes, children’s homes and orphanages and NGOs doing social works and other outreach programmes and their beneficiaries were guests of this 103 table luncheon event. RPX residents were the guests of KL Host Lion’s Club.
The 10 RPX lads were acc
ompanied to the luncheon by Bros Francis Lai and Yohannes Sugumar.
An exciting programme was prepared for this Chinese New Year do, which included welcome by two lion dance troupes and the “God of Wealth”, door gifts, angpows from various participating clubs and performances by residents of several homes.
Puan Sashekala Pathmanathan, Centennial District Governor 2016-2017 was the guest of honour and in her welcoming speech congratulated the organising team as well as the various Lion’s Club for coming together again to jointly host this annual event which has been in the calendar of the Club activities for more than 10 years now. RPX has been privileged to be invited for the past 4 years. An 8 course luncheon was served, with the popular Yee Sang being the introductory dish. For the RPX lads it was an eye opener and experience to be introduced to some popular Chinese cuisine including the ever popular Lunar New Year dish of “Yee Sang” and the opportunity to do the traditional “Lo Hei”. The lads’ comment were an overwhelming “the food was delicious”.

The most popular attraction for this Rooster Lunar New Year luncheon performance was the Chicken dance. The performances by children of a Home drew participation from all present, be it adults, children and golden seniors, club officials and members. Many came nearer to the stage to join the dance while many also danced from where they were seated.
Soon lunch was over and the organizers had their group photos taken and then followed by senior Club members going around the restaurant distributing goody bags and angpows to every invitee present, accompanied by the “God of Wealth”. Many selfie and wefie shots were taken when the God of Wealth came around too. The luncheon ended at 4.10pm.
RPX and its residents are grateful for being invited again to this luncheon and wish the Lion’s Club well in its activities to reach out to more of the marginalized and needy communities of society.
