“Ozanam Service Centre (OSC) in Taman Sri Sentosa is currently running computer literacy classes under the Centre’s Women Empowerment Programme (WEP). This new computer literacy programmme expands the WEP which currently conducts English Lessons and Group Therapy.

Started in June 2017 the sessions are held on Wednesdays from 3pm to 5pm. 1 to 2 sessions are run per month with upto 9 ladies attending per session. The average age of the participants is between 30 years to 65 years.

Using the Centre’s internet connected computers, the students learn some basics first including touch typing, mouse accuracy and pointer click training, and also have an understanding of desktop applications. The students are currently taught Word processing using Microsoft Office.

Although just started in June it is a planned long term empowerment programme tailored for the housewives. Through this learning process, the ladies will experience a sense of personal achievement as they can catch up with many aspects of their daily life which are IT generated. It will also enhance their competency in communicating with their children and even their grandchildren, thus bridging the IT competency gap between their beloved ones and themselves. Another objective of this empowerment programme is to enhance the marketability of the ladies in the jobs market, either by direct contact or search for jobs themselves via on-line”.
