Thursday, 15.8.19 was a memorable day for some SSVP members and the students of SSVP runned homes as we were given the opportunity to visit the Royal Malaysian Police Training Centre (PULAPOL) in Jalan Semarak.

It was a school holiday activity in which about 30 children from Rumah Pengajian Xavier, Rumah Ozanam and Rumah Keluarga Kami went for the visit. We were led by our SSVP member Bro Harry Lau, who has served the police force and retired as a Senior Assistant Commissioner (SAC ).

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Tan Boon Sing and his officers welcomed us on behalf of the Commandant of PULAPOL. The first item in the visit programme was to witness how Cadet Inspectors underwent marching exercises in the PULAPOL parade ground using swords, batons and rifles. Next was visit to their well kept and orderly laid out living quarters and the trainees dining hall. Then we adjourned to the shooting range to see the police personnel demonstrating their shooting skills at distances of 20metres, 15 meters and 10 meters from the targets. Next stop was to the academic centre where we were allowed to enter a lecture theatre to have an opportunity to say hello to the trainee cadet officers and view the lecture theatre which can sit nearly 375 trainees per session. In the same building was also the well equipped Electronic library sponsored by Samsung. A short video promoting PULAPOL was shown to us, after which the DSP Tan invited the youths to consider a career with the Royal Malaysian Police Force. The last stop was the Tactical Simulating building which had various set up to simulate real life situations which the police officers will have to embrace when on crime prevention duties. There was also a life demonstration on the tackling of snatch thefts and how an anti narcotic raid was carried out.

The visit officially ended with a hearty lunch hosted for us by DSP Tan and his officers. After lunch and a formal thank you, group photos were taken for memory sake, and the hopes of PULAPOL to seeing some of our youths coming back for formal police training either as Cadet Inspectors, Cadet Sargeants and as Policemen.

It was indeed a rewarding trip, and a sort of homecoming for Bro Harry, as we learned the reward of how disciplinary training and academic excellence will make good police officers necessary for maintaining the peace, security and safety for our beloved Malaysia and her citizens.
