We wanted to establish a Food Bank in the church early this year but the project was shelved with the closure of the church premises under the movement control order by the government. The prolonged pandemic resulted in the hardship of the people as more businesses failed and employment rates continue to escalate. As usual Malaysians under the B40 group are the worst hit. We decided to proceed with the food bank on a mobile basis with storage outside the church premises. SFX Mobile Food Bank, a joint project between SSVP and Care for Creation Ministry (C4C) was officially launched to the BECs on 26th November 2020 with our staging centre in SS2. The first collection from the BECs was on 5th December 2020. Rice, cooking oil, milk powder, milo, instant noodles, biscuits, sardines, canned curry chicken, dhall, sugar and salt were generously donated.
The rations are distributed on a monthly basis. 100 poor families which include our Friends-in-need, outstation college students and migrant communities benefited from this food bank in December 2020. We channeled some provisions to a feeding centre, Samaritan Home which provides breakfast and lunch to approx. 300 homeless people daily. We also responded to AOHD’s call to assist the flood victims in East Coast.
